3 Reasons to Embrace your Rainy Wedding Day

rainy wedding

You meet the guy. You love the guy. He loves you, too! So, he proposes and you say yes! Then, it’s time to plan. So you plan and plan, maybe for years. Everything is ready and you’re excited. The day comes and then….it starts raining. Your first instinct may be to panic or start wallowing in self-pity, but…what if you didn’t? What if you decided that your wedding day won’t be ruined by a little water falling from the sky? What if you made the conscious effort to embrace your rainy wedding day?

Now, I do truly hope that you have the exact weather that you want on your big day, but that won’t happen for all of us – someone’s got to get married on those pesky rainy days. So in the event that it does rain on your wedding day, I’ve put together a few tips to help you embrace it!

Here are three reasons why rain doesn’t need to ruin your wedding day:

  1. It’s good luck! – Yes, it’s just an old wive’s tale, but why not just pretend it’s a cold, hard fact? A little luck never hurt anyone, right? Of course, you and your new spouse don’t need luck – you’ve got love, hard work, and commitment. But if the old wives, whoever they are, say that rain is good luck, well I’m not gonna question them!
  2. Rain is cozy! – I don’t know about you but rain makes me think about cuddling up on the couch with my favorite blanket and a cup of coffee. Most likely Gilmore Girls will be on TV and it’s possible that a pumpkin pie will be in the oven, but I digress. SO, imagine a cozy wedding day where all your guests are reminded of those sweet, cozy moments. As long as you have an indoor space or tent to hold all of your friends and family, you’re good to go! Rain may change the “feel” of the day but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing!
  3. Your photos will stand out! – Don’t get me wrong, a beautiful sunset wedding or a sunny beach wedding are amazing to photograph! BUT the photos I’ve included in this post are from a wedding this past fall at The Angus Barn and I’m in love with how they turned out! They’re cozy, sweet, and so different from the weddings I usually photograph. I love the feeling I get from these photos and the best part is that the rain seriously didn’t phase Marissa & Jarrod for one second!

So now that you’ve heard my tips, I’d love to hear from those of you who had a rainy wedding day – how did you deal with it? Did you have a backup ceremony location? Were you able to embrace it and look past the weather to focus on what really matters? I hope so!

And don’t worry, I’ll be posting more from this beautiful wedding next week!

Happy Thursday!

So true! I will say though, that I don’t understand not having a back-up plan if you’re planning an outdoor wedding…having been a wedding musician in a previous life, it was quite frustrating as rain and stringed instruments don’t mix well. A “rain policy” became a part of my contract after that…(sorry, vent over lol).

(But maybe from the bride’s perspective, perhaps the lesson from your blog post is to embrace Mother Nature and understand that if you don’t have a backup, you may have to be okay with letting go of certain elements of your plan, like live musicians etc.)

  2. […] day, but that didn’t phase M & J (You can read more about embracing a rainy wedding day HERE). Truthfully, there was barely any mention of the rain. They were perfectly happy to be married […]
