Time for another Creative Spotlight blogpost! I’ve had the delicious opportunity to taste some Oak City Cookies multiple times! These cookies were served at my baby shower last year and most recently at my sister’s birthday dinner party. They were adorable and most importantly, so yummy! I was excited to interview Whitney about her business and can’t wait for the next time I get to devour some of her cookies! Keep reading for more about the woman behind Oak City Cookies – Whitney Stilwell!

  • What is currently playing on your Spotify/Pandora player? Currently (and slightly embarrassing) J. Biebs is playing on Spotify
  • What’s your favorite show on Netflix right now? Oooooh that’s a tough one.  I tend to be a binge watcher while baking my cookies.  Currently I am watching Breaking Bad but my all time favorite show is The Office.
  • Coffee or Tea? Coffee. Definitely coffee.
  • What is the “why” behind your business? Why do you do what you do? I have always loved to bake and it is a way for me to be creative.  I really enjoy creating custom designs for my clients and adding just a little more detail to their events.
  • Tell me about your favorite cookie that you’ve ever made. It’s so hard to pick just one!  I really LOVE my Santa and snowman cookies.  They were some of my first ones and Christmas cookies are a necessity so they might be my favorite.
  • What’s your favorite part of owning your own business? The creative outlet.  I love the ability to come up with designs and styles for cookies.  It’s so much fun to come home from my day job and start designing and working through how to make someones vision translate to a cookie.
  • What is the most exciting project you have coming up? I’m trying something new this month.  My sister is a fashion designer so I am going to use food coloring pens to transfer some of her sketches onto a cookie.  It will be different than any cookie I’ve done so I’m looking forward to those.
  • What was the biggest challenge you overcame when starting your business?vThe hardest thing for me is learning to not over-commit.  It’s very easy for me to say yes to every order but then I end up stretching myself too thin and not being able to do my best work.  So it has been a challenge to create a work life balance.
  • How can people find you? My website is oakcitycookies.com and Instagram is @oakcitycookies

Oak City Cookies is a dream that I have had as long as I can remember.  After making my first batch of cookies at the end of 2014, I have become a self-taught cookie artist.  I work with each client individually to create custom cookies for their occasion.

Catering to Raleigh and Durham, Oak City Cookies are a sure way to make your event special.  Each creation is made to order with premium ingredients.  I look forward to working with you to create designs as delicious as they are detailed.
