Never did I ever think that an image that I took would go viral. Until now, I had no idea what the term “viral” really entailed. I mean, I knew that it meant something that was very popular on the internet, but I had no idea that it also meant that someone from Access Hollywood may text you while you’re at the park with your kids.

Back in December, I photographed the birth of my dear friend Nancy‘s third baby. She was told she’d be having her third baby girl and I arrived minutes before “she” was born. About 10 minutes later, she uncovered her baby so her husband, Will, could cut the cord and discovered that she actually had a baby BOY in her arms! Shock, laughter, Will falling to his knees – it was just the most amazing moment!

Fast forward a few months and I finally shared THAT image on Instagram. It was quickly shared among doula and pregnancy pages. I loved seeing other people enjoy the same excitement we all felt in that room and it was fun to see it shared all over social media.

Then I got a message from Health Magazine – they wanted to write an article about the image. The next morning, I heard from People.com – they also wanted to write an article. Nancy started receiving requests, too, and before we knew it, it was “viral.” The story was seen on CBS: This Morning and Access Live as well as online on several major news outlets. Let’s just say there were a lot of “WHAT IS HAPPENING?!” texts exchanged between Nancy and me.

All of this has been amazing but I’m mostly just excited that people get to share in the joy of this story. The Rays are such a sweet family and it was truly an honor to be the one to document Beaufort’s birth. Going Viral is just the icing on the cake. Congrats on the birth of your beautiful boy, Ray family!
