Rhys’ Arrival | Magnolia Birth Center, Greensboro

Magnolia Birth Center Water Birth

I feel like I say this often, and maybe I’m just blessed to have amazing clients, but this mom and dad were such an amazing team! This was their second baby, first boy, and first out-of-hospital birth. It was such an honor to capture this sweet birth and to work with the amazing team at Magnolia Birth Center in Greensboro, NC.

Early Labor

I got THE text from Jordan in the early morning hours of New Years Eve. She had woken up to a strong contraction and a gush of water. She decided to wait and see what happened and her midwife told her to stay put for a while. I went back to sleep but had my phone on loud and was so excited to document another birth in 2017!

Around 8:45am, Jordan’s husband, Fred, texted me to let me know they were heading in to the birth center to be checked and they’d love for me to meet them there. I quickly packed everything into my car and headed out the door. After a little mishap with my GPS taking me to the wrong location, I made it to Magnolia to find Jordan and Fred working through a contraction together. I could see that Jordan was working so hard and Fred was right there to support her through it all.

Active Labor

Around 10:45am, the birth pool was filled and ready for Jordan. This is always one of my favorite parts of a water birth – you can see so clearly the relief the water provides to laboring moms! Second Stage of Labor (Pushing)

Things began to intensify quickly and soon it was time for Jordan to start pushing. She was so relaxed and focused – so ready to meet her sweet boy! My favorite memory from this birth was when her baby was CROWNING and Jordan was SMILING (see below)! I mean, talk about a rockstar momma!Sweet Rhys was born in the water at 11:29am. I adore the following set of images and the shock on Jordan and Fred’s faces – their boy is finally here!!

Rhys Hoffman | 8 lbs. 11 oz | 21 inches long

After Jordan and Fred had a few moments to snuggle their newest baby, their daughter, Riley, joined them and got to meet her new brother! She was so excited to officially be a big sister and I’m so glad I could be there to capture these precious moments!
Dear Hoffman family, being able to experience this alongside you was such an honor. I’m so excited for all of you and your little New Years Eve baby! Congratulations on your beautiful family of four!
