june goals

Sorry for the extremely late post, guys, I was babysitting all day, then had some trouble collecting my thoughts. One of my main goals from here on out is going to be to blog more intentionally. I’ve always kind of felt like I live day-to-day, but not in the good, spontaneous, living in the moment kind of way. It’s more of the I-have-no-planning-skills and my-life-always-feels-like-a-mess kind of way. So my only goal for this month is to:

write more intentionally

What does that mean? It means, I don’t want to sit down to my computer each day and type something out in 10 minutes and call it “done.” I want to write posts that are interesting and meaningful. I want to plan out what posts I’ll be writing ahead of time and keep myself on a schedule. (This is a small step towards implementing this habit into the rest of my life and work.) Not to say that I won’t have silly posts every now and then (I’m looking at you, “ode to coffee”) and not to say that I’ve been writing all my posts in 10 minutes and walking away. But when it’s hard to come up with something to write about, I just whip something out and I’m usually not very proud of it.

I just don’t want to coast through this 10 weeks of blogging only to come out the other side with shallow blog posts and uninterested readers. The reason for blogging every (week)day was to find my voice and to reach out to my readers. Although I haven’t posted a lot of photo shoots lately (I have two weddings coming up, so I’ll have some new stuff soon!), I want thing blog to be about more. I want it to be a chance for my clients and future clients to get to know me and for me to get to know y’all!

So here’s an impromptu giveaway: Comment below to tell me what you like/don’t like about my blog. What would you love to see? What interests you? Ask me questions. I cannot wait to hear from you!

After this post reaches 20 comments, I’ll randomly choose a winner and give away a FREE photo session with me at the location of your choice (must be within the Raleigh/Durham area).

I hope you all have an amazing week!!

  1. Great post! I love your blog and would like to see more of the things that fire you up. There’s nothing wrong with short posts if they showcase things you love! It helps us get to know you better and why you do what you do. :)

  2. Lauren says:

I would love to see more pictures – I also love a post about why you became a photographer :)

  3. I love that you’re posting this! Such a great idea… I love the layout of your blog and how organized and professional it looks! Love your work :)

  4. Lucy says:

Joll! I love the way your blog looks, but I often wish I could see more photos because your work is so good. Your voice is great and funny, but I think putting little more time into shaping intentional and organized posts is a great idea. Also, more pictures of the cats, Moose gets all the attention.

  5. Amanda says:

I love how even if I had no idea who you were I feel so invited into your life. The pictures you put up capture the fun loving person you are and the layout is warm and happy.

  6. Ashley says:

I may be biased, but my favorite part of this blog is the photos. More photos, please! :)

  7. Kristin says:

I like your blog, but I think you should something like “Lauren’s favorite things.” Do a post about things that you like. They don’t all have to be tangible, but just make a list of things that make you happy. Also, you could do a post about places you have been or you would like to visit. If you talk about places you have been, you can put up the pictures you took while you were there. One last idea: talk about your honeymoon and where you will be going and things you want to do/see while you are there!

  8. Winnie Black says:

I think you should showcase Moose more. Maybe have Moose Mondays and do posts from his perspective. I like how simple your style is. It seems effortless, but not something that can be easily copied.

  9. Jess says:

My favorite thing about your blog is all of the photos! You’re so talented and I want to see more! Also, I love your being a bride posts. Even though you think no one else wants to hear about your wedding planning, we all do!! It’s an exciting time!

  10. Sarah Orton says:

I love reading your daily blog posts and getting to know you on a more personal level, not just as a photographer! And I want to win a photo session for Mary Ellen! :)

  11. Sara G says:

I enjoy reading your blog and love the style of your writing and layout! I would agree with many people in saying that I would love to see more pictures you take wether it is of something you saw that day, a photo shoot, or what you wore. Also, like this post, your goals and what you are going to do to achieve them.

  12. Lauralee says:

I love reading your blog and would love to see more of your photography, everything i’ve seen is beautiful!! I like how you post sneak peaks from photo shoots that you’re hired to do and I really really enjoy when you post pictures of you and Vaughan and family (that includes Moose) :) It really shows how passionate you are about what you do and I think it helps readers get to know you on a more personal level!

  13. Kristen Radloff says:

LOVE your blog!! I feel at home with the quaint decor & font. If I had to add something to it…It would be more pictures!! Your pictures are amazing! Do a pic-of-the-day through instagram!

PS I hope I win this :) Because we need some pictures!!

  14. Morgan March says:

Love this blog :) I love that all of your posts are real and hearfelt! I feel like reading them is like conversing to you, and thats what every reader wants. I’d love to see more photos, and more about your weekly life (where you go, what you like to do, etc).

  15. I love how personal your blog is.. it really helps us get a feel for who you are, and I feel like I already know you just by reading! :)
